After more than a year of closed renovations, Kaohsiung's "Shoushan Zoo" will begin trial operations on December 16, 2022. The renovation plan, known as the "New Zoo Movement," is a collaboration between Chiu Wen-Chieh Architects and AxB Architecture Studio. Its goal is to optimize the animals' living environments while rethinking the relationship between humans and animals, as well as the dynamics of observation. This will be achieved through various methods, including opening sections of animal enclosures, adding an aerial walkway, enhancing the water-friendly plaza, and creating a more animal-friendly home for the residents. The result will be a modern zoo that upholds animal welfare and provides a welcoming experience for visitors.
